The Mother Blessing Ceremony

I feel like I could say all of my offerings are my favorite thing to do (perks of choosing a career path that is soul aligned). However, Mother Blessings do rise above.

Mother Blessingโ€™s are making their resurgence as women begin to acknowledge the innate (and nearly forgotten) need for a village; And to honor the Rite of Passage that is birth; And the immense transition that is matrescene.

If you are new to the concept of a Mother Blessing, you are in the right place.

I LOVE hosting for women who have never had the pleasure before. It is so healing and nourishing for all who attend.

A cared for Mother is a cared for baby.

If this is your first baby you will undoubtedly realize quickly that much of what is put on a baby registry is not actually needed and what you did need most in the postpartum was love, food, & rest.

A Mother Blessing puts the focus on what matters most: The Mother.

It is multidimensional with a spiritual focus on the Rite of Passage that is birth and it has roots in the tangible summoning of your village that will care for you in the postpartum.

If this is aligned for you, read on to get a feel for the magic I offer.

Mother Blessings are typically hosted as you enter the last month to weeks before your baby arrives. It is designed to infuse you with love and support as you enter the birth portal. You will leave feeling enriched, filled up, and deeply held.

Each ceremony is tailored to the individual pregnant mama but below are a few of my favorite suggestions:

  • Everyone in attendance has an opportunity to reflect to the mama what they love most about her, what inspires them through her, and a prayer or a blessing for her upcoming birth and postpartum

  • The Red Thread: Each woman weaves it around her wrist symbolizing the web of support and community Mama has. It will stay on each sister's wrist until Mama goes into labor. When they are notified they cut it off releasing their prayers and blessings for her journey.

  • Mama is invited to speak about her dream birth and be witnessed in a safe and heart filled space.

  • Mama is invited to speak and release any fears she has about her birth or postpartum. We hold her and do a fear release ritual.

  • A footbath or massage

  • A hands on portion where Mama is held in a loving embrace while the women sing or hum a special song.

  • Each woman is invited to bring a special gift for her birth altar and something to support the Mother in her postpartum (i.e. herbs, bath salts, massage certificate).

  • Just to name a fewโ€ฆ I have more up my sleeve!

All I need is an invite list and I will take care of the rest.

A Mother Blessing is so much more than a magical and deeply spiritual ceremony.

I use the correct language to educate, inform, and inspire your โ€œvillageโ€ to Mother the Mother. When they get their invite they will know exactly how you want to be supported in the postpartum and what their role will be. Oftentimes, that looks like a link to your meal train with specific postpartum meal options listed, a link to your postpartum bodywork donation fund, and a sign up sheet for chores or help with childcare if you have other littles.

* I do not provide food or venue but I do provide comfortable floor seating for up to 15 and a beautiful altar space. If the weather is nice, outdoors is a great place to host a Mother Blessing and usually a potluck is a lovely way to end the ceremony.

From Motherโ€™s who have been Blessed

  • One of the most profoundly spiritual, powerful, supportive, and loving experiences I've ever had. I have so much gratitude and love for these women as I clearly felt today from those present and those from afar. Many thanks to Emily, you are a gift and a guiding light in my life. So often it is forgotten how important the mother is while focusing only on the baby as we enter into motherhood for the first time or again. My first pregnancy and post partum was lonely, dark and sad. I vowed never to repeat that again if I were to have another child. I've gathered my tribe. So long as they have me, I shall have my baby in optimal nourishing hands.

  • I have known Emily for about two years and in that time she has provided so much support to my family and I. She hosted my mother blessing which was a magical spiritual experience full of love, passion, tradition, and celebration. The thought and care that went into planning my mother blessing was way beyond what I was imagining. She truly took the time to research, understand, create, and follow through with this beautiful traditional ceremony. I have been to mother blessings before and this had such an original and unique spin on it. She is a ceremonial artist. I really loved every part of it which I will keep a surprise for you just like Emily did for me. I 100% recommend Emily for holding space and ceremonies for people.

  • Emily was effective at creating an intentional space to honor my transitioning from maiden into motherhood. I found it could be easy to isolate myself during the last stretches of pregnancy as it can be such a profound inward journey, but opening to receive reflections, connection and blessings from other sisters gathered through this ceremony was a beautiful opportunity to integrate aspects of my strength and capabilities that became important to embody at this point on. Having Emily on board made this event meaningful in my life, inspiring deeper emotional processing leading to the birth. All details were taken care of to make this ceremony happen and I found a moment of peace within it all that was very nurturing. Highly recommended!
